🚆 Getting to Chase Field
Take Valley Metro Rail downtown — the light rail stops a block from Chase Field, making this one of the easiest MLB parks to reach without a car.
Valley Metro Rail's A Line stops at 3rd Street/Washington (westbound) and 3rd Street/Jefferson (eastbound), both about a block from the ballpark in downtown Phoenix. The line links downtown with Tempe and Mesa and connects toward Phoenix Sky Harbor via the 44th St/Washington station. Trains run every 15 to 20 minutes, 365 days a year, per the club's guide summary.
There is no big surface lot at the ballpark itself — parking is in downtown garages and lots within walking distance, including the Chase Field Garage just south on 4th Street, the Jefferson Street Garage, and the Right Field Garage and Lot. Fans can pre-book through ParkWhiz, the venue's preferred parking partner. Driving access is via I-10 and I-17 into downtown.
🛏️ Where to stay near Chase Field
Most visiting fans stay in downtown Phoenix and walk to the game; light rail also makes Tempe an easy second base.
- Downtown Phoenix — The ballpark sits in the heart of downtown, walkable from hotels on Central Avenue and the convention center area — the simplest base, with restaurants and the arena district within a few blocks.
- Roosevelt Row — The artsy downtown neighborhood just north of the ballpark, walkable to Chase Field and known for galleries, bars, and restaurants — still downtown, but with a local feel.
- Tempe — Ride Valley Metro Rail west from Tempe (home of Arizona State and Mill Avenue) straight to the 3rd Street stations — no car or downtown parking needed on game day.
🎟️ Game-day tips for Chase Field
Do not fear a summer day game — the retractable roof and air conditioning are the whole point of Chase Field, so plan your comfort around the walk in, not the seats.
- The pool in right-center — The swimming pool and hot tub beyond the right-center field fence, about 415 feet from home plate, is Chase Field's signature feature — a group rental suite where fans watch the game from the water.
- Roof closed means no sun game — Chase Field was the first MLB ballpark to combine a retractable roof with a natural grass surface (the field has since switched to turf). With the roof closed in the summer months, sun and shade do not matter — the interior is kept at a comfortable temperature.
- Arrive by light rail, skip the garage hunt — Light rail stops directly outside the ballpark, and the downtown garage scene is the main friction point for drivers — rail is the documented easy route in for first-timers.
Bags: Chase Field has a clear bag policy: one clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag no larger than 12 x 6 x 12 inches or a one-gallon clear bag, plus a small clutch no larger than 6.5 x 4.5 inches; backpacks are not approved. Official policy.
