🚆 Getting to Dodger Stadium
Take the free Dodger Stadium Express from Union Station if you can — driving up into Chavez Ravine and back out is this park's famous headache.
The Dodger Stadium Express is free with a game ticket and runs from Union Station West, on the Alameda Street side, every five to 10 minutes beginning three hours before game time through the end of the second inning, dropping riders behind center field. Return service ends one hour after the final out. A second route serves the South Bay from Harbor Gateway Transit Center and the Slauson, Manchester, Harbor Freeway, and Rosecrans stations, dropping riders behind right field. Union Station itself is served by Metro A, B, and D Line trains, Metrolink, and Amtrak.
Dodger Stadium is ringed by terraced general and preferred lots with over 16,000 spaces, entered through gates around the hilltop — buy parking in advance online for the lower price, since preferred parking is advance-only and gate sales are card-only. The club's own advice is to plan your entry gate to match your seats on the official parking map. Lots 13 and 14 on Stadium Way are more remote and require an uphill walk.
There is a rideshare drop-off at Gate A, on the Sunset Boulevard side of the stadium.
🛏️ Where to stay near Dodger Stadium
Most visiting fans stay in Downtown Los Angeles and ride the Express from Union Station, because the stadium sits on a residential hilltop with no hotel neighborhood of its own.
- Downtown Los Angeles / Union Station — The natural base: Metro rail, Metrolink, and Amtrak all meet at Union Station, where the free Dodger Stadium Express boards — you can do the whole game day without a car.
- Chinatown — Immediately below the stadium hill near Union Station and the Metro A Line Chinatown Station — the closest neighborhood feel to the park, with the Express one stop away at Union Station.
- South Bay (Harbor Gateway corridor) — A workable second base for fans coming from the south: the South Bay Dodger Stadium Express boards at Harbor Gateway Transit Center and four J Line stations and drops you behind right field.
🎟️ Game-day tips for Dodger Stadium
Arrive early and enter at the level of your seats — Dodger Stadium's terraced hillside design rewards planning your gate, and punishes wandering in late through traffic.
- Top Deck views are the bargain — Opened in 1962 and MLB's largest ballpark at 56,000 seats, Dodger Stadium sits in Chavez Ravine above downtown — the upper levels deliver the famous panoramic views of the downtown skyline and the San Gabriel Mountains beyond the outfield.
- Center Field Plaza and the Jackie Robinson statue — Build in time for the outfield plaza near center field, home to the Jackie Robinson statue, Dodger legends displays, and photo ops from giant bobbleheads to an enormous World Series ring.
- Match your gate to your seats — Visit California's guide stresses routing to the gate closest to your seats on the official parking map — in a terraced park built into a hill, the wrong gate means a long climb and the worst of the postgame exit.
Bags: Dodger Stadium has a strict clear-bag policy: clear bags no larger than 12 x 12 x 6 inches, and non-clear bags must be smaller than 5 x 8 x 2 inches, with diaper and medical bags permitted subject to search. Official policy.
