🚆 Getting to Petco Park
Take the San Diego Trolley: all three lines serve stations within about a block or two of Petco Park, with 12th & Imperial and Gaslamp Quarter the closest.
MTS says three Trolley lines plus numerous bus routes provide direct access. The Green Line serves Gaslamp Quarter station (one block), the UC San Diego Blue Line and Orange Line serve 12th & Imperial (one block) and Park & Market (0.2 miles). Trolley service runs every 15 minutes or better pre-game, with additional service as needed post-game.
Padres preferred parking can be pre-purchased through the team, which is encouraged to ensure a space. The primary lots next to the stadium are the Lexus Premier Lot, Tailgate Park and Padres Parkade, with Park 12, the MTS Garage and Tailgate lots to the east, the Padres Parkade to the north, and Convention Center parking to the south. Interstate 5 is the main driving route, with 10th Ave and Imperial Ave among the downtown exits.
🛏️ Where to stay near Petco Park

- East Village — The ballpark's own neighborhood, a short walk to the gates. Bars, restaurants and breweries line the streets around Park Boulevard and the ballpark plaza.
- Downtown / Convention Center area — Across Harbor Drive from the park and just blocks from the bayfront, per the San Diego Tourism Authority. An easy walk to Petco Park with the wider downtown hotel and dining supply.
🎟️ Game-day tips for Petco Park
For a day game, sit on the third-base side — home plate faces north, so that side falls into shade while the first-base side bakes in afternoon sun.
- Pick the shade side for day games — Because home plate faces north, the third-base side (even-numbered sections) is the shade side and stays noticeably cooler through an afternoon, while the first-base side sits in direct sun for the first several innings. The back rows of the Toyota Terrace (200 level) also catch shade from the overhang.
- Gallagher Square — The grassy area behind center field — formerly Park at the Park — is a family gathering spot with a playground, a play field for kids, the Tony Gwynn Terrace viewing deck and picnic space, and a statue honoring Tony Gwynn. It is one of the cheapest ways into the park, so arrive early for a spot near the fence.
- Western Metal Supply Co. Building — The historic red-brick warehouse built into the left-field boundary is Petco Park's signature feature. It houses gathering spaces, suites and a rooftop, and its balconies are among the most distinctive vantage points in any MLB park.
