🛏️ Where to stay near Tropicana Field
Base yourself in downtown St. Petersburg, about a mile and a half east of the park, for dining, waterfront parks and the shuttle — or in the EDGE District for a walkable stay right by the park.
- Downtown St. Petersburg — About 1.5 miles from the park, packed with dining, waterfront parks and lodging, and the downtown end of the free baseball shuttle and the SunRunner. The default base for a Rays trip focused on the city as well as the game.
- EDGE District — The walkable neighborhood the park sits in, just west of downtown along Central Avenue, defined by murals, independent boutiques, breweries and restaurants. The closest base to the gates.
- St. Pete Beach — About 9 miles west of the stadium, for fans mixing baseball with a beach vacation. The SunRunner connects St. Pete Beach through to downtown and the park area, so a car-free game day is possible.
🎟️ Game-day tips for Tropicana Field
Go straight to the ray touch tank in right-center field — it is the one experience no other ballpark offers, and as a fixed dome the Trop never has a rain delay or a sun problem.
- The Rays Touch Tank — The 35-foot, 10,000-gallon touch tank near the right-center field wall, created with The Florida Aquarium, holds cownose rays that fans can view up close and, when permitted, gently touch. The renovated Cownose Clubhouse experience reopened with the park in 2026.
- A dome, catwalks and all — Tropicana Field is MLB's only remaining fixed-dome stadium, so every game is indoors and air-conditioned regardless of Florida weather. Look up: its four circular catwalks are in play, and a fair ball hitting the C or D rings is ruled a home run.
- Gate 1 Rotunda and Ballpark & Rec — Enter through the Gate 1 Rotunda, modeled on Ebbets Field's rotunda with a tiled mosaic and Rays displays, and check the Rays Hall of Fame in left field. In center field, Ballpark & Rec is a bi-level indoor-outdoor bar and games space by the Budweiser Porch.
Bags: Fans may bring one single-compartment clear bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12", plus one small single-pocket clutch, wallet or fanny pack no larger than 5" x 7" that does not have to be clear. Official policy.
